Mastercam 2027 Deburr Enhancements

More Control, Smoother Motion, Faster Results

Deburring is often the final step between a machined part and a finished product, making efficiency, consistency, and control critical. In Mastercam 2027, the Deburr toolpath receives several significant enhancements designed to streamline programming, improve tool motion, and give users greater flexibility when tackling complex edge finishing operations.

Whether you are programming simple chamfers or managing intricate multi-sided deburring applications, these new capabilities help reduce programming time while delivering cleaner, more efficient toolpaths.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s new.

Smarter Machining Direction Control

One of the most impactful updates in Mastercam 2027 is the addition of Automatic and User-Defined Machining Direction controls within Deburr 3-Axis and Deburr toolpaths.

Previously, users were limited to selecting either Climb or Conventional cutting. While effective in many situations, this could create challenges when using specialty tooling such as lollipop cutters for undercut deburring. To maintain the specified cutting direction, toolpaths would often be broken into multiple segments, resulting in less efficient motion.

With the new enhancement, Mastercam can now:

  • Automatically determine the optimal machining direction based on selected contours
  • Prioritize continuous motion to reduce unnecessary segmentation
  • Improve overall toolpath smoothness
  • Reduce interruptions in cutter movement

For users who prefer complete control, Follow Curve Chaining allows Mastercam to follow the exact chain direction selected during geometry creation.

The result is the best of both worlds: intelligent automation when you want it and precise manual control when you need it.

Benefits

  • Smoother tool motion
  • Reduced toolpath segmentation
  • Better performance with lollipop and undercutting tools
  • Greater programming flexibility
  • Optimized start points to minimize rapid travel moves
Spiralize Closed Contours for Continuous Motion

When deburring closed contours, multiple offset passes can often create excessive linking moves and unnecessary direction changes between cuts.

The new Spiralize Closed Contours option addresses this challenge by transforming multiple offset passes into a single continuous spiral motion.

Rather than repeatedly starting and stopping between individual passes, the tool transitions smoothly through the operation in one uninterrupted path.

Benefits

  • Reduced retract and linking motions
  • Smoother machine movement
  • More efficient cycle times
  • Improved surface consistency
  • Better results for chamfering, filleting, and deeper burr removal applications

For shops focused on balance between quality and efficiency, this feature creates cleaner motion while minimizing unnecessary machine movements.

Preserve User-Selected Edge Order

Not every deburring job can be automated entirely. In many situations, programmers need specific edges machined in a precise sequence to meet process requirements, maintain tolerances, or support downstream operations.

Mastercam 2027 introduces Preserve User Selected Order, giving users explicit control over machining sequence directly within the Deburr operation.

Instead of creating multiple Deburr operations to force a desired order, programmers can now simply select edges in the sequence they want them machined.

Benefits

  • Full control over edge-by-edge machining order
  • Fewer operations required
  • Simplified programming workflows
  • Better support for critical tolerance features
  • Improved process consistency

This enhancement makes it easier to program complex parts while keeping toolpath organization simple and efficient.

Expanded Support for Backside Chamfer Tools

Mastercam 2027 also increases tooling flexibility with new Backside Chamfer Support within Deburr toolpaths.

By leveraging chamfer geometry available on slot mill tools, Mastercam can now support deburring using both the top and bottom chamfer surfaces of the cutter.

Previously, only the bottom portion of these tools were utilized for deburring operations. Now, both cutting edges can be used effectively.

Benefits

  • Access to both top-side and back-side edges
  • Increased tooling versatility
  • More efficient deburring strategies
  • Reduced need for additional tool changes
  • Expanded capabilities for complex part geometries

For manufacturers working with parts that require access from multiple directions, this enhancement opens new opportunities to maximize existing tooling investments.

Faster Edge Selection with New Edge Filtering

Auto Detect has long been a powerful productivity feature for Deburr users, helping programmers quickly identify machinable edges. However, many users found themselves manually removing unwanted edge selections before generating toolpaths.

Mastercam 2027 solves this challenge with new Edge Filtering capabilities found within the Advanced Edge Options dialog.

These filters automatically exclude common edge types that are often unnecessary for deburring operations.

Available Filters

  • Vertical Edges

Automatically removes vertical edges commonly detected during 3-axis deburring operations with certain tool types.

  • Circular Holes

Filters out planar circular hole edges that are often more efficiently machined using spot drills or chamfer drills.

Benefits

  • More accurate Auto Detect results
  • Reduced manual cleanup
  • Faster programming workflows
  • Improved setup efficiency
  • Better focus on the edges that actually require deburring

With more efficient geometry filtering, programmers can spend less time managing selections and more time machining parts.

A More Efficient Deburring Experience

The Deburr enhancements in Mastercam 2027 focus on a simple but important goal: helping users create better toolpaths with less effort.

From intelligent machining direction control and continuous spiral motion to user-defined sequencing, backside chamfer support, and smarter edge detection, these updates provide meaningful improvements for both productivity and part quality.

Whether you are programming high-volume production work or complex precision components, Mastercam 2027 gives you more control over how deburring operations are created and executed, allowing you to program faster, machine more efficiently, and achieve better finishing results every step of the way.
