As 2025 draws to a close, the CNC world has advanced significantly, and we have been at the forefront of several key CNC trends. From AI-powered programming to sustainable machining, here is how the industry and Mastercam have shaped innovations this year.

AI-Powered CNC Programming

The rise of AI in CAM software continues full throttle. Mastercam partnered with firms like LimitlessCNCUp2parts, and CloudNC to deliver AI-assisted toolpath and quoting capabilities through its AutoCAM and CAM Assist integrations. These tools can generate up to 80% of a toolpath in minutes, reduce cycle time, and minimize scrap by optimizing cutting parameters for your specific machine setups.

In parallel, we introduced Mastercam Copilot enabling natural-language commands and conversational assistance within the software. This “intelligent mentor” streamlines complex operations, reduces onboarding time, and helps prevent errors; improving productivity for both experienced and new programmers.

Hybrid Manufacturing: CNC Meets Additive

Hybrid manufacturing—combining additive and subtractive machining, gained wider traction. Mastercam introduced the APlus® Add On to support hybrid setups like the Mazak VC500A. This extension enables seamless programming between metal deposition and CNC finishing in one platform, reducing waste and setup time.

Sustainability and Green Machining

At Mastercam, sustainability is more than a goal; it is a commitment. In 2025, we proudly celebrated Earth Day by highlighting the green initiatives at our facilities, including renewable energy integration, geothermal HVAC systems, and EV charging stations. Beyond our physical footprint, our CAM software is designed to help shops reduce energy consumption and minimize material waste through optimized toolpaths and smarter coolant strategies.

Our mission is clear: empower manufacturers to run leaner, cut waste, and lower operational impact—all while maintaining the highest levels of precision and productivity. Efficiency is not just a feature; it is the foundation of everything we do.

Advanced Robotics and Automation

Automation advanced with Mastercam’s Deburr 3-Axis Add On, which automates edge finishing within standard 3-axis machining workflows without needing multiaxis setups. This reduces manual intervention, enabling automated quality finishing across more parts and speeds up lights-out production.

Though full robot-cell integrations remain shop-driven, Mastercam’s efficiency tools complement robotic and cobot automation paths.

Digital Twins and Smart Factories

While not labeled explicitly as “digital twin” features, Mastercam’s 2025 enhancements support smart manufacturing:

These features, paired with AI Copilot insights, enable real-time validation and bolster predictive maintenance and performance—core digital twin attributes.
