Teamet valde 4130 kromlegerat st\u00e5l f\u00f6r konstruktionen av ramen. F\u00f6r hjulen anv\u00e4nds gjutna magnesiumstolpar f\u00f6r optimerad viktminskning; 6061 aluminium- och 4130 st\u00e5lr\u00f6r anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r upph\u00e4ngningen. Ytterligare magnesiumdelar inkluderar st\u00e4ngerna f\u00f6r differentialf\u00e4stena och motorns oljetr\u00e5g. Den interna tillverkningen sker i CNC-bearbetningscenter och manuella fr\u00e4sar och svarvar. Brown till\u00e4gger att teamet f\u00f6rlitar sig p\u00e5 Verify, en Mastercam-funktion, f\u00f6r att kontrollera om det finns sk\u00e5ror och se detaljernas f\u00e4rdiga former i Verify-simuleringssk\u00e4rmen.Produktiviteten \u00f6kar och problemen \u00e5tg\u00e4rdas innan detaljerna ens har skurits. Programmerarna kan verifiera p\u00e5 en separat tr\u00e5d samtidigt som de forts\u00e4tter att programmera, vilket sparar v\u00e4rdefull produktionstid.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Vi tycker mycket om att anv\u00e4nda Mastercams Verify-funktion n\u00e4r vi bearbetar delar till racerbilen, eftersom den g\u00f6r det m\u00f6jligt f\u00f6r oss att kontrollera verktygskollisioner och se till att den valda verktygsbanan och parametrarna bearbetar de \u00f6nskade funktionerna&#8221;, s\u00e4ger Brown.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En utmaning som teamet st\u00e4lldes inf\u00f6r var standardbearbetning och toleranss\u00e4ttning av differentialens frontf\u00e4sten och kuddeblock. I det h\u00e4r fallet var det inte ett alternativ att k\u00f6ra standardverktygsbanor f\u00f6r kedjehjulsadaptern. Designen har ett standardbultm\u00f6nster men det uppstod problem med toleranser och bladhastighet. Under den f\u00f6reg\u00e5ende s\u00e4songen producerade UConn-teamet den snabbaste icke-aerodynamiska bilen utan ett aerodynamiskt paket och var ett av de enda teamen som klarade uth\u00e5llighetskravet, utan tvekan den sv\u00e5raste delen av FSAE-t\u00e4vlingen. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Vi k\u00f6r med en dragst\u00e5ngsfj\u00e4dring, vilket v\u00e4ldigt f\u00e5 lag g\u00f6r&#8221;, s\u00e4ger Palin. &#8220;Vi har inte en budget p\u00e5 en miljon dollar. Enligt Palin \u00e4r det h\u00e4r som teamen riskerar att f\u00f6rlora flest po\u00e4ng p\u00e5 grund av tr\u00f6tthet. Faktorer som vikt, tillverkningsbarhet, kostnad och strukturell kapacitet m\u00e5ste beaktas i designen av bilen. UConn-bilen 2018 visade prov p\u00e5 snabbhet och uth\u00e5llighet genom att accelerera fr\u00e5n 0 till 100 km\/h p\u00e5 mindre \u00e4n 3 sekunder. Den ber\u00e4knade topphastigheten var 80-plus miles per timme.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Den l\u00e5ngvariga relationen mellan UConn FSAE och Mastercam ger ingenj\u00f6rsstudenter f\u00f6rdelar l\u00e5ngt efter examen. Flera medlemmar i FSAE-teamet har praktiserat hos CNC Software, utvecklarna av Mastercam, och f\u00e5tt v\u00e4rdefull branschkunskap. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mastercam kommer att forts\u00e4tta att samarbeta med University of Connecticut och andra utbildningsinstitutioner f\u00f6r att hj\u00e4lpa till att bana v\u00e4g f\u00f6r blivande ingenj\u00f6rer.
