Orion Aerospace is an AS9100 certified aerospace company operating as a 501c3 non-profit company with an important social mission: Helping individuals with barriers to employment to find work appropriate to their interests and abilities and to have a better life. Aerospace manufacturing serves as both the context and the financial support for much of the training and job placement services the company provides.
To keep funds and training opportunities flowing into this mission, the company has become an increasingly intense competitor focused on customer satisfaction, growth, and profitability. To this end, the company invests without restraint in facilities, equipment, and computer-aided manufacturing capabilities.
Today, the Aerospace Division has 220 people, and it manufactures about one and a half million parts annually. At any given time, there are also about 60 paid program participants working side by side with the skilled manufacturing staff mentors in every phase of aerospace manufacturing.
Orion Aerospace has become a very successful aerospace manufacturer, so much so that it was named Boeing’s Supplier of The Year in 2011. Growth has been sustained at an annual rate of approximately 20% over the past five years.
The intern program has also been very successful. Last year, 103 Orion program participants were placed in jobs, mostly within the aerospace industry (about 20% of these were veterans). This is about the same number the program has placed in most years and the retention rate is 85% (compared to 67% for the population of new hires in general.)
