Q&A with Matthew Salomon
Question:
What is your major at Northeastern University?
Answer:
I am pursuing a combined major of Computer Science and Game Development.
Question:
What factors influenced your decision to pursue your particular major or degree program?
Answer:
I took my first coding class in the fall of 2018 and fell in love with its abundance of problem-solving strategies and solutions. As I continued to explore fields in the computer science industry, I found that coding for games adds a level of inventiveness that I really enjoy. The combined major of computer science and game development enables my creativity and logical thinking. I’m looking forward to learning more!
Question:
How do you envision your career progression after graduation? What is your dream profession?
Answer:
After graduation, I plan to work as a software engineer at a company that promotes innovative and unique design in its codebase and product. I’m interested in any industry if they support engineers in experimenting with their work.
Question:
What are your goals as a co-op at Mastercam?
Answer:
As a co-op at Mastercam, I hope to learn more about the Scrum framework and working on a small team within a broader company of programmers. Between familiarizing myself with the existing program, making sure that my teammates’ work is not interrupted by my additions, and communicating with peers, there are many differences between working alone, as I’ve done previously, and with a team. With this in mind, I plan to utilize the resources offered to me and improve my collaboration skills.
Question:
What excites you the most about joining the Software Engineering department?
Answer:
Joining the Software Engineering department, I’m excited to work with Mastercam software as both a client and a programmer. I’ve worked with a 3D modeling software, Blender, to create game pieces for personal projects. And I’m very excited to see what I can do with a CAD/CAM system as I develop my own features.
