The Mastercam Quick Part Series is a growing selection of project-based learning tutorials for classroom use. Each tutorial includes instructor and student guides, along with an introductory video.
The first project in the series is the Chocolate Mold. The Chocolate Mold is available free of charge to anyone interested in downloading it, and projects in the Quick Part Series will always be free to educators. Request your free download to get started.
Chocolate Mold Overview:
Who does not like candy? In this project, you will explore how to design and machine a candy mold that you can use to make your own supply of sweet treats. This project will instruct the user to import a solid model and use CAD tools to create the geometry for the mold.
Using 3D rough and finish toolpaths, you will program the toolpath and learn how Mastercam’s verify will help you confirm that you have correctly programed the project before you actually machine the part. Finally, you will post out your toolpaths to generate NC code and cut the part.
The goals of Chocolate Mold project-based learning project include providing:
- Basic understanding of wireframe and solid model design tools and how they can be used together to create a complex solid model to be machined.
- The ability to program a part with roughing and finishing toolpaths.
- Knowledge of safely fixturing the part.
- The basic understanding of the verify function to confirm proper toolpaths are applied.
As part of Mastercam’s ongoing commitment to technical education, we will release many projects in the Quick Part Series going forward. Eventually, each will be available in inch and metric. The Chocolate Mold is in metric.
