Our applications engineers recently demonstrated a new piece of equipment in the Mastercam Manufacturing Lab. The Master3DGage is a portable Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) produced by our partner, Verisurf. It is an affordable device for first article inspection and reporting in minutes.
The Master3DGage can be used to quickly measure or inspect parts that have been machined. It can also be used to reverse engineer existing parts for which a CAD model is not available. This CMM is a human-controlled and software automated instrument, whose interface resides within a session of Mastercam.
Previously, we had an older model Master3DGage in the Mastercam Manufacturing Lab, but we upgraded to Verisurf’s brand new version that offers significant advancements. The Master3DGage is especially useful, because it can employ two methods of inspecting coordinates. It has traditional probe stylus tips for measuring one point at a time, and it has a brand new laser scanner attachment that can scan 40,000 points per second.
The Master3DGage solution includes Verisurf software, a leading inspection and measurement program that when installed, is accessible directly from the Mastercam ribbon interface. In addition to driving the Master3DGage solution, Verisurf supports popular CAD file formats and CMM devices. That’s right—if you have an existing CNC CMM or portable CMM, you can use Verisurf software to drive those devices as well. You will save time and money in training and software maintenance, while improving productivity with a single inspection and measurement platform.
