Getting Ready for WorldSkills Shanghai 2021

The 46th WorldSkills Competition is scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, September 22–27, 2021. At a time of global pandemic and social strife, WorldSkills Shanghai 2021 is proving to be a focal point for the essential nature of skilled people and skills development in sustaining communities and economic growth.

As a Global Partner of WorldSkills International, Mastercam has been a part of the effort underway to prepare for this celebration and demonstration of skilled people in global competition. CNC Turning, CNC Milling, Plastic Die Engineering, and the Manufacturing Team Challenge are among the WorldSkills competitions sponsored and supported by Mastercam.

Mastercam China watching the WorldSkills webinar

Recently, we had the opportunity to participate in an Online Seminar for WorldSkills Experts in China, in preparation for the events in Shanghai. This event was initiated by DMG MORI China. DMG MORI China invited Mastercam and Hexagon as co-organizers of the event. The event provided an opportunity to introduce WorldSkills to the Chinese market and give sponsors the chance to share strategies and technologies with the audience.

The virtual platform for this seminar provided access to a large number of attendees, more than 9,000. Everyone was able to participate safely from remote locations to watch the presentations and engage in conversation via online chat. It was a very interactive event supported on our side by representatives from our China office and regional Resellers.

WorldSkills presentation with past winners

Highlights included presentations from two Chinese WorldSkills experts for milling and turning competitions. Also, notable presentations were given by leaders from within the DMG MORI organization including Head of International Cooperation in Education, Sebastian Plau; DMG MORI China COO and President, Dr. Beermann; and DMG MORI China Education Director, Li Sun.

As an international event of high prominence, WorldSkills takes an extraordinary amount of planning and organization. In these uncertain times and always, it is an honor to be in the company of everyone working to support the success of WorldSkills and skilled people everywhere. We look forward to the competition at WorldSkills Shanghai 2021!
