Each year, the Hartford Business Journal hosts an awards contest to recognize outstanding achievements in family-owned businesses in the Hartford, Connecticut, region. This year, CNC Software, Inc. was nominated for the category “Succession Planning” and won!
CNC Software develops Mastercam, the world’s most widely used CAM software. The company was started by members of the Summers family, nearly forty years ago. Now a thriving global leader in CAD/CAM software, the company is under the leadership of the second generation, founder Mark Summers’ daughter, Meghan West.
In the capable hands of Meghan, CNC Software has continued to grow and gain market share. The transition from the founding generation to Meghan was a success as a result of careful planning from the very start. A video featuring Mark and Meghan after learning that the company won a Family Business Award for Succession Planning is available here.
You can learn about some of what was involved in making a successful hand-off from one generation to the next in the article, CNC Software Inc.’s father-to-daughter transition required ‘proper thought and execution’, by Natalie Missakian on the Hartford Business Journal’s website.
