Clarkson University Students Compete in Green Challenge
Clarkson University is private, national research university in Potsdam, New York. As a company with a strong green initiative, we were delighted recently to receive a letter from students on the Clarkson University Diesel Sled Team about their first place finish in the 2020 SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge. A goal for this challenge is to re-engineer an existing snowmobile to reduce emissions and noise.
The following is the letter we received that describes the students’ fantastic performance.
On behalf of the 2019-2020 Clarkson Diesel Sled Team, we would like to sincerely thank you and all the employees at Mastercam who donated their time to help my team achieve its goals for this year’s competition. In our third year of the diesel snowmobile project, you were able to provide Mastercam licenses, which enabled a strong foundation for the manufacture of our system. By putting extra effort into CAD design upfront, the entire build was able to be manufactured and assembled in under three weeks. This was only possible with the use of your licenses to quickly mill high quality parts from our CAD files, which in turn enabled the team to have over a month of testing on the system before the competition to get any kinks out.
This year at the 2020 SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge, Clarkson University was able to bring home the first-place overall award in the diesel class. Additionally, we received the award for best design, as well as best emissions performance. It was a monumental year for the Clarkson Diesel Sled team, and it would not have been possible without your support.
Again, thank you so much for your time and dedication, and it was a pleasure to work with you. Clarkson is very thankful to work with Mastercam, and we look forward to what the future may bring between us. As always, Clarkson’s Diesel Sled Team will continue to defy conventional methods to display our passion for cleaner, quieter, and more efficient snowmobiles.
