Announcing the IOF Competition Winner
For the 2009-2010 Innovator of the Future competition, students were challenged to design and machine a NASCAR® style gear shift lever and knob. This year was a close competition and the judges (Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman, and Brad Harris of Stewart-Haas Racing) had a hard time narrowing down the entries.
This year’s Mastercam IOF winner is Justin Small of Vincennes University, Vincennes, Indiana. Justin used steel for the shaft which allowed him to create a low profile part while maintaining enough strength to withstand 110 pounds of torque. Justin used Mastercam Mill and Art to produce his creative design.

Shortly, Justin and his instructor, Doug Bowman, will be heading to North Carolina to tour the Stewart-Haas Racing headquarters and CNC Shop. In addition, they will attend the NASCAR Coca-Cola® 600 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The June Mastercam eNews will include pictures and details from Justin and Doug’s trip to NC. And don’t forget to keep an eye out for details on the 2010-2011 IOF Competition at www.mastercam.com/IOF. The celebrity judge and part specs will be announced by the Fall semester.

Saracione Manufacturing Co.
World famous fly reel designer and manufacturer Joe Saracione has refined the design of his latest classic fly reels (the Mark IV series) so that 90% of the parts can be manufactured in a single setup.
Previously, fans of the Saracione fly reel could only purchase the product direct from the manufacturer because there was not enough margin for the retailers to want to carry the product. That is no longer the case, because Mastercam allows Saracione to produce a modern, high tech reel at prices that allow for very competitive pricing in both the retail and wholesale markets.
The Challenge: Improve manufacturing productivity so that a classic fly reel manufacturer can compete effectively in a global market place.
The Solution: Mastercam Mill, Lathe, and Reseller training
Benefits:
- Mastercam training provides fast transition to more profitable multiaxis manufacturing.
- Mastercam’s Solids module allows for efficient designing of entire assemblies.
- Fine control over toolpaths eliminates secondary operations while improving overall cosmetics and product quality.

Mastercam Summer Teacher Training

The Mastercam Educational Division is busy preparing for another great year of Mastercam Summer Teacher Training (STT). There are a number of reasons we love Summer Teacher Training. Most importantly is that we know how crucial training is to your program's success—especially in this economy when everyone is being asked to do more with less.
There are a lot of other benefits to attending Mastercam STT. Most of all—simply getting to know all of the incredibly talented instructors who are out there teaching Mastercam and sharing strategies to overcoming the challenges technology instructors all face. Every year we hear from instructors that have attended how much they got from sharing stories with their peers.
This summer we look forward to seeing some of our old friends as well as making new ones. Make sure to sign up soon to ensure that your desired classes are held.
2010 BONUS: Each instructor that attends a 2010 STT class receives a FREE Mastercam University course. You can choose a class that compliments and reinforces what you learned, or choose something completely different to expand your knowledge.
