Mastercam Joins the BSA

At CNC Software/Mastercam, we are committed to creating excellent CAD/CAM software for the manufacturing industry. To do this, we depend on highly skilled programmers and staff. To keep these skilled people, the company relies entirely on profits from licensed Mastercam users.

According to a recent study, the U.S. software industry lost nearly $11 billion to software piracy, $2.9 billion alone in the U.S., resulting in lost jobs and tax revenues. In fact, it is estimated that software piracy cost the U.S. economy over 109,000 jobs, $4.5 billion in lost wages, and almost $1 billion in tax revenue for 1998.

CNC Software has made the commitment to ensure their licensed customers are protected by not tolerating piracy of Mastercam software. In addition to our own efforts against piracy which include legal letters and follow up, Mastercam has joined the Business Software Alliance (BSA) as a worldwide member with initial enforcement conducted in North America.

Since 1988, the Business Software Alliance has been the voice of the world's leading software developers before governments and with consumers in the international marketplace. Its members represent the fastest growing industry in the world. BSA educates computer users on software copyrights, advocates public policy that fosters innovation and expands trade opportunities, and fights software piracy. BSA members include Adobe, Apple Computer, AutoDesk, Bentley Systems, CNC Software, Inc., Compaq, Corel Corporation, IBM, Intel, Intuit, Lotus Development, Macromedia, Microsoft, Network Associates, Novell, Sybase, Symantec and Walker Digital. BSA web sites: www.bsa.org and www.nopiracy.com.

CNC Software is very excited about becoming a member of the BSA to step up our effort of stopping the piracy of Mastercam. The piracy problem in our industry is too widespread for CNC to address on its own. Having the BSA and its member organization joining in this effort will allow us to recover lost revenues which we will dedicate back toward Mastercam software development. We are honored to be a part of this world organization dedicated to stopping piracy.
